U12
(Learn to Train stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development model)

This program allows athletes, 10 and 11 years old, to develop fundamental skills in a fun and competitive environment where the terrain that Lake Louise has to offer acts as their classroom. U12 athletes participate in a combination of club races, Alberta provincial series and invitational races, are exposed to competitive SX and All Mountain environments. A typical day includes technical freeskiing and/or gate training in the morning and freeskiing the amazing terrain that Lake Louise has to offer in the afternoon.
Athletes participate in dryland training, goal setting, regular video analysis, and team building activities. Where possible, the program gives U12 athletes and parents access to safe sport training, ski tuning workshops, sport nutrition sessions and basic snow safety sessions, all at age-appropriate levels, to deliver a holistic experience that sets athletes up for long term success as competitive skiers in any avenue.

U14
(Learn to Train / Train to Train stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development model)

Our U14 program continues to explore building the athlete through skill development on and off snow in a fun, competitive and structured environment. The program builds on skills and concepts introduced at U12 in a more ski racing context. Weekly video analysis, race preparation, goal setting, and introduction to mental training all add to the athlete’s growth as they learn to maximize their own performance in Alberta Provincial Race Series, SX races and where possible, Big Mountain comps.
U14s see the addition of speed elements to their program and are exposed to SG camp and race environments. Freeskiing is still a large component for U14s and Lake Louise is the perfect place to consolidate skills in varying terrain and snow conditions which grows the athletes’ comfort zone and increases confidence on skis in any environment, preparing them to meet the challenges of U16 Race or All Mountain programs. Athletes will have access to safesport training, sport nutrition sessions, ski tuning workshops, and have the option to participate in a Youth Avalanche Awareness course (schedule permitting).

U16
(Train to Train / Train to Race stage of the Long-Term Athlete Development model)

Our U16 program provides a fun and inclusive environment where athletes continue to develop skills, while providing expanded opportunities to train and complete across Alberta and Western Canada. Athletes have access to training 4 – 5 days/week typically at Lake Louise, however a variety of hills in the Bow Valley, and evenings at COP are used to create opportunities for success in all ski racing disciplines. Training blocks are scheduled in conjunction with Alberta provincial series races and consider athletes’ academic calendars where possible. Our general focus for U16 athletes is on high volume of training coupled with Freeskiing and technical Freeskiing that allows athletes to push their limits in all competitive on snow environments.
U16 sets athletes up for individual success by introducing strength and conditioning programs in the off season, learn to set and debrief performance goals, have access to video of training sessions and be guided by coaches to become the best version of themselves both on and off snow. Our yearly plan is based around full participation in the program, however other competitive sports are encouraged, and coaches will work with athletes to create the right plan for the individual. Athletes will participate in safe sport training and have access to sport nutrition and mental performance sessions where possible.
Basic Program
U16 is offered as one program without add on packages. Participation in the full program, including extras, will target 90 – 100 days on snow, with opportunities for varying schedules based on athletes’ individual goals and targeted events.
Dryland programing is to be discussed individually with coaches; It is highly recommended that athletes have an external strength and conditioning programs or participate in CSI training (not included in the program fee). We strongly recommended that U16s participate in Saturday Dryland in Canmore in September and October regardless of individual dryland plan. Other club dryland activities will be encouraged where appropriate for the individual.
Extras
CSI Strength & Conditioning Program May- October 2023
TransRockies Gravel Royale Dryland Camp – August 28 – 31 2023
Preseason Camp – TBD
Early Season Hostel Camp or Norquay training

Intro to Coaching
This program is designed for the U16 and older athlete who wish to start their journey in the coaching world but still developing their technical skills as an athlete. This hybrid program will allow the athlete to train on a weekly basis with their peers while giving them a taste of coaching with the younger athletes in the Lake Louise Grizzlies or Lake Louise All Mountain Ski Clubs. We will create a personalized schedule and training plan for each individual that allows athletes to work with a coach mentor throughout the season.
Participation in our Intro to Coaching program will give athletes with access to Entry Level Coaching or CSIA Level 1 (age and schedule dependant), and will provide a flexible curriculum focused on leadership and coach development. This program will run in conjunction with our U16/ FIS weekend training days and will not include a racer card. COP and Friday training are available as add-ons.
Interested athletes should contact our Executive Director.
